Double Major and Minor Programs

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers undergraduate students several interdisciplinary educational opportunities through double-major and minor programs. These programs are designed to allow students to broaden their academic background, develop interdisciplinary perspectives, and strengthen their professional qualifications in complementary engineering areas.

Students from other departments may apply to pursue a double major in Mechanical Engineering, subject to academic eligibility and departmental requirements. Through the double major program, students complete an additional curriculum and graduate with a second undergraduate diploma degree in Mechanical Engineering.

The department also offers minor programs in areas such as Mechatronics and Production. Minor programs are open not only to students from other departments, but also to Mechanical Engineering students who wish to specialize in interdisciplinary topics alongside their major studies.

In addition, Mechanical Engineering students may pursue double major opportunities in other departments across the university, allowing them to combine mechanical engineering with fields such as physics, mathematics, aerospace engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, computer engineering, industrial engineering, and related disciplines.

The aim of the double major program is to allow academically successful students to work towards a second undergraduate diploma degree in the Mechanical Engineering Department.

The program consists of all courses in the undergraduate curriculum. Therefore, students seeking a double major in Mechanical Engineering must satisfy not only the requirements of their major program but also those of the B.S. program in Mechanical Engineering.

Important Note: Double major students registered in the Mechanical Engineering Department must take the required courses in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Therefore, when the must courses are considered, the equivalency table above is not valid for Mechanical Engineering students registered in a double-major program.

Double Major Coordinator: Dr. Suat Kadıoğlu

Department of Mechanical Engineering coordinates the Minor Program on Mechatronics, which is offered by the Faculty of Engineering for undergraduate students. The main purpose of this program is to provide successful and motivated students with a broad knowledge of mechatronics that will enable them to practice their profession in an interdisciplinary manner.

Applications for the Mechatronics minor are accepted only during the summer, and students may apply for admission to the program at the end of their 1st or 2nd year.

Mechatronics Minor Coordinator: Dr. Ali Emre Turgut

The Mechanical Engineering Department offers a Minor Program in Production for undergraduate students of other disciplines. The purpose of the Minor Program in Production is to provide interested and successful students with a general overview of production technology, with the belief that they will perform better in their own discipline, having acquired a broader scope of knowledge and a different perspective.
